Introduction
What Peppermint is, who it is for and how it differs from other Firefox-based browsers.
Peppermint is a calm, productive, Firefox-based browser. It is built for focus, not noise, and it aims to give you quality of life, looks and performance improvements on top of a solid engine while staying unbloated and minimal.
What you get
- A focused interface. A Zen-inspired layout with a native vertical tab bar, spaces, split view and a command palette.
- Privacy by default. No telemetry, no studies, no Pocket and no sponsored shortcuts, with hardened preferences out of the box.
- Built-in tools. An ad blocker (standard and video), cookie-popup refusal, MintNotes, URL snippets, temporary permissions and the Peppermint Janitor.
- Performance first. Optimised builds, idle-tab unloading and an Underpowered Mode for low battery and older machines.
How it relates to Zen and Firefox
Peppermint is forked from Zen Browser, which is built on Mozilla Firefox. Everything general from Zen is still there. Peppermint adds:
- more organised settings and more consistent panel colours and design,
- additional settings and minor quality-of-life features,
- sensible default themes and preferences,
- the built-in features listed above.
Peppermint runs on the Firefox engine (currently Firefox 158), so web compatibility and Firefox extensions work the way you expect. It uses its own profile and application identity, so it installs side by side with Firefox and Zen without sharing data.
