Underpowered Mode
Freeze background tabs and limit resource use, plus automatic idle-tab unloading.
Underpowered Mode is a one-click way to make Peppermint gentler on your battery and memory.
Turn it on
Select Underpowered Mode in the toolbar. The icon turns yellow, and a frosted toast confirms that background tabs are frozen to save power.
Idle-tab unloading
Independently of Underpowered Mode, Peppermint unloads idle tabs in the background after a time you choose.
- Set the delay in Settings → Performance, in minutes. Use
0to keep every tab loaded. - Pinned tabs, Essentials, the tab you are viewing and tabs playing sound always stay loaded.
Other performance controls
Settings also lets you turn off motion and effects you do not use. Peppermint keeps chrome animations on the compositor and avoids unnecessary session writes to stay light.
