The foundations

Everything that shipped as Peppermint took shape on top of Zen, from the built-in ad blocker to MintNotes.

New

  • Built-in ad blocker with Light, Medium and Heavy levels, video and YouTube ad blocking and custom filters. Learn more.
  • Cookie-popup refusal that declines banners automatically and hides the stubborn ones. Learn more.
  • MintNotes at mint://note, a markdown notepad with slash commands, in-place renaming and encrypted saving. Learn more.
  • Temporary permissions so site access can expire on its own. Learn more.
  • URL snippets for opening any site from the address bar. Learn more.
  • Underpowered Mode to freeze background tabs and save power. Learn more.
  • Rich homepage with compact stat cards and a clock. Learn more.
  • Split view button on tab entries.

Improved

  • Peppermint now has its own profile, remoting name and bundle identifier, so it lives side by side with Firefox and Zen.
  • Frosted-glass look restored and unified across the URL bar and toasts, adapting to the page behind it.
  • Telemetry is fully hidden from Permissions & Data, and preferences are hardened by default.
  • Chrome motion stays on the compositor, tab layout is cheaper, ad-block compilation moved off the main thread and idle work was cut.
  • A more sensible default browser layout on Windows.
